Passione is one of the most famous songs of Neapolitan music and it constitutes a poignant analysis of ecstasy and suffering of love.
It is considered one of the most famous standards of all time in the repertoire of many tenors. In 2010 John Turturro will include it in his documentary on Neapolitan music of the same title and it was interpreted by James Senese.
Pullecenella (Pulcinella, Polichenella), a typical character of the commedia dell'arte, embodies the average Neapolitan who denounces, with a smile, the abuses suffered by the institutions of the City of Naples.
The song, written for the film Scugnizzi in 1989, won the David di Donatello, as best original Italian song.
The texts denounce the abuses (especially on issues related to public health) that stigmatize the city, destroying the many beauties of the Neapolitan city.
Over time it has been a huge success, often being performed by street musicians, as well as by great interpreters of Neapolitan song, such as Mario Merola.
