Lacreme Napulitane is considered a great classic of the Neapolitan song.
Composed in epistolary form (a letter to the mother), the song describes the drama of the Neapolitan immigrant in America from the late nineteenth to the second of the twentieth century. The Neapolitans were treated less than nothing.
In this nostalgic song, the immigrant cries and thinks of his children, his beloved and Naples.
Loneliness and nostalgia, the emigrant cries, even with little money he has never felt so poor, he dreams of his children, of his beloved, of the Neapolitan sky. Having lost his homeland, home and honour, he has been reduced to the same level as an animal for slaughter.
