Legend has it that Salvatore Di Giacomo had the inspiration seeing a carnation resting on the windowsill of a little window in Marechiaro, a small fishing village near Naples. A window still existing nowadays that rests a commemorative plaque on which are engraved the score and the name of the author of the song. In reality, it was a friend of him from the Fenestella tavern (literally the Window’s Inn) who invented the story and provided the inspiration.
The piece is a traditional serenade, renewed by the poetry of Di Giacomo who, with his own sensitivity, has given a new imprint to the genre, while preserving its romantic elements.
The moon and the sea sung by all lovers come to life with fish, waves and new colours.
